Here at CLOBBER we love a good charity shop find, but we also understand that sometimes it can feel overwhelming trying to find wee 'gems' in these shops so here's some tips and tricks that can help.
Before you even set out on your shopscepade make sure you have a meal and hydrate before you go!
Research the charity shops in your chosen area, whether its through word of mouth, social media research, or google ratings etc. Some shops might be better than others. Additionally in higher income areas you have higher chance of accessing designer labels.
You should also checkout areas that have multiple charity shops in the one place so you don't exhaust yourself travelling too much.
Once you decide what shop to go to break it down into sections aka go from tops, bottoms, accessories and so on.
The beauty of charity shops is that they have so many different styles of clothing, go in with an open mind you may find something you like that isn't usually your style but can be a great addition to your wardrobe by adding some diversity.
Always look at the quality and brand! brands like Shein and Romwe still make it to the charity shop floor and are usually very poor quality so just make sure you pay attention to the material.
If you do have an idea of what items or brands you are looking for make sure you're aware of the worth of the item. Overpricing is more of a vintage shop issue than a charity shop issue but always be aware.
Try on items if you can, if not, find a mirror or use your phone and really look at the item on/against your body to see if you genuinely like it.
Don't go into with extremely high expectations sometimes its hit or miss, so don't get too discouraged if you don't find exactly what you want.
Take your time! don't rush or you may miss that wee gem that was hanging up or hidden at the back of the shop.
Dress comfortably and if you are a nervous shopper bring some headphones to listen to music as you scan the shop.
Consider giving back, at the end of the day charity shops support various causes such as cancer research, child protection and animal protection etc. So donating your own clothes is a nice way of giving back.
Have fun with it try new things. Happy shopping!
