Zara is a social media influencer who specialises in fashion, pop culture, beauty and vlog posts. Zara has made many charity shop and second-hand haul videos showing her followers that second-hand can be chic.

Zara shares her favourite finds with us!

I bought the coolest fur jacket from a flea market in 2022 and wore it everywhere, it was my second skin until it got stolen from the club. I say stolen because it was so one-of-a-kind that I don’t believe that someone mistook it as their own and lifted it by accident. I set out to find a new one from the charity shop and my local Salvation Army had this gem for £2. Fast-fashion fur jackets are never as cool as thrifted ones, especially quality wise. This one is probably 15+ years old and is still in great condition, I doubt a PLT or ZARA jacket would hold up this well in 2040. This one will never be the same as the first fur, but for £2 I cannot complain, and it still gets worn weekly.

I think there’s a huge pressure to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes every summer, especially given how fast trends switch up. I try to find as many bits second hand as possible because I would not be able to afford to buy everything new AND do nice things.

I recently went on a hot holiday and found any summer clothing items that I didn’t already own second hand. I got these ASOS sandals for £2.50 from Cancer Research in Portobello, I don’t think they’d ever been worn. This shirt was a find from there too, I love how I could style in on the streets of Valencia but could easily wear it to a job interview if buttoned up and paired with some trousers.

I’ve never felt envy quite like when my girlfriend found this gem of a Kangol cap in one of the charity shops in Newington. She got it for about £7, I don’t think the shop owners understood its value, these go for so much more on apps like Depop! I borrowed it recently to wear to an event in London and it really tied the whole look together.

My local charity shop back home has a bucket of scarves for £1 so I have a growing collection of thin little scarves like these. They really elevate an outfit, and I’m also naturally a very cold girl, so it’s a win-win situation for me!

The baseball/football shirt trend is really picking up right now, I’m seeing so many fast-fashion stores just slap their logo and a number on the front of shirts to join in. Some of them are cool, but I will advocate for finding a real sports shirt second hand that will be half the price, and also more unique. I bought this green shirt around this time last year it’s become such a go-to for me. I will pair it with anything! It also holds a special place in my heart as I was wearing it when I met my girlfriend. Your sign that second-hand finds will have you standing out from the crowd.
